Sheriff worried over release of drawingBELLEFONTAINE (AP) — The Logan County Sheriff’s Department is afraid that release of the composite drawing of a suspcct in the July 5 slaying of two Belle Center residents, including the town marshal, could bring a wave of false sightings, Chief Deputy Mike Henry said Friday. The composite was released in the Celebrezze Report, published monthly by the Ohio attorney general’s office and sent to law enforcement agencies around the state. Henry said the sheriff’s department had not authorized publication.“Anybody can look at that picture and make it look like someone in Belle Center,” Henry said. The chief deputy said the composite was so general that it might be used to wrongly accuse someone in the killings, much like a man “was run out of town’’ after deputies questioned him about the killings.Belle Center Police Chief Murray Griffin, 64, and Phyllis Mullet, 37, were found dead at Mullet’s house the night of July 5. Griffin had been called there on the report of a disturbance.Mullet was found slashed and stabbed in a downstairs kitchen, while Griffin was found on an upstairs landing, shot to death, police said. Authorities believe Griffin may have been shot with his own gun, which was missing and has not been found. The suspect is described as aX srw rSUSPECT SKETCHwhite male, about 6 feet tall with a medium build, brown hair and dark complexion. The composite was drawn after deputies interviewed a teenager who was on the porch of a house about 2\^ blocks away and saw someone leaving Mullet’s house on the night of the killing, Henry said.Sheriff’s deputies acknowledged several weeks ago that a composite sketch existed, but Henry said the department had not planned to release the sketch publicly.“We just wanted to see if some people in the area might be able to pick out who it was,’’ he said.David Barnes, a special agent with the attorney general’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identifcation who has worked on the case, said he did not know who had submitted the drawing for publication in the Celebrezze Report.
