Charged inWalter Radford of Chicago Heights, who allegedly shot and killed his 21-year-old wife Saturday afternoon, is being held without bond in Cook county jail, awaiting a court date.Radford, 59, was charged with the murder of his wife, Denise, who was foundlying on the kitchen floor of her home with a bullet wound in her chest. She was pronounced dead at St. James hospital.Police said the shooting apparently stemmed from a quarrel between Mrs. Radford and her husband.THE COUPLE, who lived at 332 Boston street, argued about a neighbor, according to police reports.The neighbor, Sharon Marie Gardner, 27, of 347 Standish street, told police that Radford had called her earlier Saturday and had threatened to kill her if she ever came to his house again.Mrs. Gardner, however, visited Mrs. Radford at her home shortly after Radford’s telephone call. The two women were talking in the kitchen when Radford appeared in the doorway with a pistol in his hand, according to reports.Radford and his wife reportedly started to argue whether Mrs. Gardner could visit their house. Mrs. Radford pulled a 12-inch butcher knife on her husband, Mrs. Gardner told police. Radford then shot his wife in the chest, police said.RADFORD TOLD police he was “only clowning” and the gun had fired by accident.A pistol, allegedly used in the shooting, was found lying on top of a freezer under Radford’s coat, police said.Sgt. Joseph Robustelli, Chicago Heights police detective, said stolen property was confiscated by police from the Radford home while they were investigating the crime scene.
