It is by resorting to schemes and stratagems of amost dangerous and hazardous nature,in the pursuit and arrest of the murderers of Coi. Divenport and others, a full disclosure of which at the present, time would be equally dangerous to myself ana unprofitable to the public. 1 intend, at a proper time, to lay all the particu-, lars before the public, accompanied with many astounding disclosures., A knowledge of many of, theseschemes was entrusted to a few, supposed to be true, hphprable, and confiding men*, and who with one exception, have proved themselves worthy of the confidence reposed in them. _When first applied to by the friends of the late Col. The Court would no doubt, have rejected the testimony* if it had* been illegal. It is true that without my testimony Young could nothave been convicted, noiwilhstandingTthe strong corroborating testimony of other witnesses. My testimony* againstYoung, was simply his own confession^1to me, in which he made many disclosures, showing hia participation of other crimes, os well as the participation of others in the murder of Coi. Davenport; fill • of which I guarded against in mytestimony before the jury, knowing it could not Be legal testimony for or a-gainst him in the trial then pending, notwithstanding it might have a tenden-1 ticcy to prejudice the minds of the jurors m( against the prisoners.In order io satisfy the minds of some who may still doubt as to the rial guilt of Young, I will refer them to the annexed affidavit of Mr. Cobb, giving the statements of Young immediately after hearing the evidence, and before he had received any proposition of entering into the prison conspiracy referred to in my former communication.
