Sheriff Unconvinced By Psychic, Won’t)Fund Langley Pond Search For GriceBy BRIAN NEILLStaff WriterLANGLEY - Aiken County Sheriff Howard Sellers said he doubts the sincerity of a psychic who says a body is located at the bottom of Langley Pond. And he adds that he won’t authorize the expenditure of public funds for a diving expedition based on the premonitions of psychic Ron Mangum.A second underwater search for the body of Jeremy Grice, who wasfour years old at the time he wasdetermined missing nearly 10 years ago, was postponed Monday because of a lack of Rinding. Off-duty divers from the AikenDepartment of Public Safety Dive Team searched the bottom of Langley Pond Sunday, and were to return to the site again Monday, after Mangum told them he had a premonition the body of the childwas there.Spectators drove to the boat ramp off Langley Dam Road Monday afternoon expecting the divers to return, but because of a miscom-munication between ADPS divers and Surveillance Security, Inc. — the Aiken private security firm organizing the private investigation - the divers did not return.“There was a breakdown as far as us thinking they (ADPS divers) were volunteering and them thinking they were on the clock,” saidDennis Lundy, commander of surveillance for the private security firm. “Like everything else it comes down to money.”Lundy said that the only way the police dive team would return to the site is if Sheriff Howard Sellers approves the action. And according to Sellers, that isn’t going to happen anytime soon.“I certainly would not waste public resources on a psychic’s hunch,” Sellers said. “Most of it is old information. Most of it does not pan out. We’ve followed rumors before; we’ve followed any credible source that comes to us.“Most information provided by(See SHERIFF, Page 3A)
