Search Launched For Missing GirlBy BOB SMITHTimes-News Staff WriterAt 4 o’clock Thursday, 12-year-old Betty Jean Necessary said goodby to two school Mends and walked toward a patch of woods which led to her home.She never came out.Tins morning the pretty blonde sixth grader still was missing, and an intensive search was underway.Sullivan County Deputy Mike Gardner found a school paper, dated Wednesday and probably returned to her Thursday, lying beside a narrow gravel road which leads through the woods to Betty Jean’s house.Her father, Waller Necessary, 448% Kingsley Ave,, said she has never stayed out all night without calling him, and had no reason for running away. He thinks she was “grabbed.” Kingsport police were told Wednesday that a man in a station wagon had tried on several occasions this week to entice young girls into iiis auto on Bridwcll and Shipley Streets in Kingsport Officers were waiting for him Thursday but he didn’t show up.Betty Jean, walked home from school Thursday with two friends, Wanda. and Joyce Hickman, who live-on the same street. They told the family that they saw her walking towards the woods as they entered their home, Mrs. Necessary said.Deputies and several members of the Kingsport Life Saving Crew searched the wooded area late Thursday night after Mrs. Necessary reported Betty Jean still missing at 9:30 p.m. Rescue Squad Cap I. Paul lane said the hunt would continue today if she isn’t found.Her father said relatives, neighbors, and friends had all been contacted and said Betty Jean hadn’t spent the night with them.Necessary said his daughter has been doing all the cooking for the family because they’ve had the flu, and he doesn’t think she would run away when they need her so - badly He said she has no boy friends'and, to his knowledge, -has never been on a date.Sullivan County Sheriff’s Investigator Jonny Robertson today was questioning the family and those who saw Betty Jean Thursday, She has one sister, Teresa, 14, and two brothers, Billy,1(1. and Cecil. 16.MISSING Betty Jean Necessary disappeared near her home Thursday.
