Tezak toremainin prisonBy Tamara SharmanA federal judge last week refused to reduce the nearly 13-year prison sentence of Robert Tezak, convicted arsonist and former Will County coroner.On Wednesday U.S. District Judge Wayne Andersen ruled that he would not grant the requested reduction in Tezak’s jail time. Tezak can file an appeal within10 days, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Dean Pol ales.“The government was pleased with the judge’s ruling,” Polales said. “We believe it was an appropriate sentence for Tezak at the time it was imposed and we believe it was appropriate for the judge to deny the motion.”Tezak had asked the federal court to trim his prison sentence to seven years.He is eligible for parole after serving slightly more than six years.Tezak, a former millionaire and once an influential force in county Republican politics, was elected to the first of three terms as coronerin 1976.He was sentenced to nine yearsin prison on arson charges and to 46 months for threatening to kill a government witness. His sentence includes five years of probation for conspiracy to commit arson.He pleaded guilty to hiring others in 1987 to set ablaze an unprofitable Crest Hill bowling alley■ See TEZAK Page A-4
