The former assistant business manager for the Kansas Univer sity Athletic Corp. has been nam ed in a complaint in Douglas County District Court alleging he took more than $3,000 from the KUAC. Arthur L. Lingle, 62, Lawrence, has been charged with four felony counts of theft and six misdemeanor counts of theft. Prosecutors allege that on 10 separate occasions between Sept. 6, 1990, and July 25, 1991, Lingle took cash from the cor poration. KU police Lt. John Mullens said the KU police department launched an investigation Sept. 2, 1991, when the KUAC reported a small amount of money was missing from its income ac count. Mullens said as part of the investigation, university auditors were called in to check KUAC accounting books to make sure nothing had been added in correctly. “That’s one of the reasons it has taken so long,’’ he said in reference to why it took almost six months to file charges. Mullens would not elaborate on Lingle’s job description. He did say that as a business manager, Lingle was involved with some monetary transac tions. A KUAC spokeswoman said to day that Lingle resigned Aug. 30 after working 22 years with the KUAC. The spokeswoman declined to comment on why Lingle had resigned. A summons has been issued ordering Lingle to make his first court appearance at 4 p.m. March 10.
