Rumors Are ProbedIn Haynor MurderBy VANS STEVENSON Daily News Stair WriterCOPPELL, Texas—“I wish I could separate all the rumors that are going around,” City Police Chief Richard Nurse commented to the Daily News this morning concerning the investigation into the murder of former Ludington resident William Haynor Wednesday, Feb. 19.Haynor was found shot five times in the chest near the new Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.Chief Nurse said his department is in the process of running down a rumor which originated in California which alleges Haynor was on his way there to testify before a grand jury concerning a real estate swindle. Nurse said a David Nowlen of Camarillo, Calif., a relative of Haynor’s, told him William was mentioned in a television news story as a witness that was coming to LosAngeles to testify when he was murdered. The Daily News attempted to contact Nowlen in California this morning, however, he was not available for comment. The story is sketchy and purely hearsay at the present time. The United Press International Detroit Bureau is currently trying to run down for the Daily News the story which was moved as a news story from the Los Angeles bureau last Saturday, concerning Haynor and the apparent connection between the murder and the fact he was apparently supposed to testify.Chief Nurse said, with the exception of the current rumor, along with others not worth mentioning, nothing new has turned up in the investigation.Nurse said he has been slowed in his investigation because of the number of current murder cases being handled bv theDallas County Medical Examiner's office. “We haven't even got the ballistic reports back yet on the gun,” he said. What is known at the present time is that Haynor never made it to the airport from the Holiday Inn where his wife left him Tuesday evening. His body was found with $150 in cash and a variety of credit cards. Several pieces of luggage, however, which Haynor had in his possession at the Holiday Inn, were not recovered.Haynor’s suburban Dallas home was found ransacked by his wife when she returned from attending classes at Texas Women's College at Denton. An intensive investigation is continuing by both Coppell and Dallas authorities.Today's ChuckleNo two people are alike—and both of them are glad of It.
