The LaRocca family is one of three organized crime clans headquartered in Pennsylvania, he said.Lazin said it appears the LaRocca family is making “a serious effort to take over control” of tIk? Cleveland crime family operated by James Licavoli.In addition to Tripodi and Quattrone, Joseph Naples of Youngstown and James Prato of Boardman are believed to be assisting the John LaRocca family in its efforts to take over Cleveland,” Lazin testified.Since 1978, the gang war in Eastern Ohio has resulted in the deaths of at least eight persons, the crime commissioners said.The Licavoli family was weakened last year when Licavoli and four close associates were convicted of gambling, murder and conspiracy charges. Licavoli was sentenced to 17 years in prison.The main opposition to the LaRocca family’s effort to take over organized crime in Cleveland came from Ronald Carabbia, also known as Ronnie the Crab. Lazin testified.Lazin said Carabbia, who controlled the Warren area for the Licavoli family, became a member of the family about six years ago as a reward for killing Danny Greene, a Cleveland rackets figure who was a competitor of Licavoli.Victims of the Eastern Ohio war between the crime families were identified as:Charles Grisham, an associate of Naples, killed in 1978.-James Cononico, an associate of Naples, murdered Jan. 11,1979.Robert Turey, an employee of Naples Music Co., murdered April 12,1979.—Jack Tobin, a gambling associate of Naples, murdered on July 25,1979.—John Magda, an associate of Naples, murdered Jan. 6, 1980.Robert DeCerbo. a Carabbia associate, murderedFeb. is. 1980.Dominic Senzarino, a cousin of Carabbia, murdered Oct. 2,1980.-Joseph DeRose Sr., murdered Feb. 24, 1981. He was the father of Joseph DeRose Jr., an alleged hit man for Carabbia, and may have been mistaken for his son, Lazin said.The son disappeared on April 17, 1981.
