Jurors HearPerrone CaseA Cass Grand Jury convened in Circuit Court Monday,After the jury, expected to hear testimony on the shooting death of David Perrone, was selected, Det. Sgt. Donald Smith of the Indiana State Police was called as the first witness.Selected as foreman of the jury was Richard D. Cart. Those selected to serve on the jury with Cart were Morris Short, Michael A. Hardy, Donald Gene Clark, Larrv Lee Burkhart and Hazel Gray.Perrone, 25, of Logansport, was shot fatally in the back of the neck on Jan. 24 bvMichael Lee Downham, 23, of 500 S., at the Downham residence where Perrone was temporarily staying.Police and Cass County Coroner Louis Marocco ruled the death “accidental” and “unintentional” and no arrests were9made.Downham told police that he thought the,12 gauge shotgun was unloaded when hepointed it at Perrone and pulled the trigger.The grand jury is expected to conclude this afternoon and then will be responsible for returning indictments, if any, in the matter.
