Stoic* h Child.Henry Leland, 33 years old nnd unmarried, a stone-cutter bv trade, and according to bis story a resident of West ford, was arrested at the northern depot this neon, after a lively chase. J-eland came to town Inst night, and went to see Matt Cunningham on Kidder street. This forenoon he left suddenly, taking with him the four-year-old child of Mr. Cunningham. Officer Chester Ryder was passing the house when Cunningham ran out and shouted:“That man has stolen my child.”The officer and the father gave chase, but the man evaded them for some time. Officer Cogger joined them and Leland was caught as he was about to leave the city. He, was intoxicated and had only four cents in his pocket. He said that the child’s sister had said that he might have her. Ho was booked for drunkenness, but the circumstances are quite unusual. The child was blue with the cold when found.
