auuv •Fridav night at about eleven o’-Or ^5clock, a tremendous explosion in the center of town, awakened tiic echoes and the people. On investigation, it was found that some person or persons had placed a beer keg containing powder against the south wall of the Court House and had, by means of a fuse exploded it. Considerable alarm and excitement was created. Pieces of the keg went flying in every direction, some of them passing through windows on the south side, and others passing in close proximity to the persons of belated people. Early Saturday morning crowds collected to view the ground, and indeed the scene of destruction drew well all day* The damage to the glass in the Court House is estimated at $200, besides the damage done to private parties. The destruction of the building was not, it is supposed, intended, nor was it, perhaps, a malicious act inintent, but it was a piece of reckless deviltry, for which the perpetrators should be held strictly accountable— one that might have resulted in se* rious destruction of life and property.
