SOUTH BEND LAWLESSNESS.Motor mail 'is At tucked And JXLmny LivesJEudangered. The South Bend Times says the worst act of the Indiana Railway company strike was committed Monday night, when Elmer McHenry, a non-union motorman was pulled fromhis car in the celebrated West End ofSouth Bend and brutally beaten so heis now in the Epworth hospital. W. J. Baxter, the conductor, fled for safety. The assailants then set the controlling lever of the car at eight points and sent it speeding down the line without haviug any attendant, that speed being the car’s greatest possible limit. At the crossing of the Lake Shore railway the trolley wheel left the wire, but the car had gained sufficient momentum to carry it to the Grand Trunk tracks before coming to a stop. Luckily no trains were passing or the result might have been fearful to relate. The Times declares such an act is hellishly criminal. The South Bend police are searching for the guilty parties.
