THE BUBH8-BE00KS CASE,Did Florence Burns kill Walter Brooks? •District-Attorney Jerome believes she did. He 4s going to ask the Grand Jury to indict her. So far as disclosed to the public the facts which he believes can be proved and,on which he relies to secure an indictment are these:That on Friday night last, at about 9 o’clock, Walter Brooks and Florence Burns went together to the lt;Hen Island Hotel, registered as “J. Wilson and wife, Brooklyn, N. Y.,“ and were assigned to room 12, on the third door.That they were seen to enter that room together; that three hours and a half later, about 12.30 A. M., the man was, found alone in the-room wounded by a pistol shot in the head, from the effects of which he died in the Hudson Street Hospital at 11 A. M. the following day (Saturday).■' * ' *That Brooks had promised to .marry Miss Burns, andthat his refusal to do so .was the, niotive of thealleged murder. That Miss Burns had anade threatsto kill Brooks and herself unless he married her.While these facte, if proved, in ay justify an Indictment, they would certainly have to be* • * U * * . • . - 1 * . • • ,sfcrt ngthened by the addition of many material links before they would make such a chain of, evidence as would lead! to conviction.
