Hsq., as stenographer, went there to hold an inquest. Much excitement prevailed here as soon us the news was spread and during Saturday and Sunday the horrible crime was the absorbing theme. Saturday noon the self-murder of Joe Chmelik, the assassin, was known and all were gratified to know of it. It was soon learned that the first horrible news was true, the details only increasing its villainy, atrocity and brutal and abhorrent character. The parties thus far directly shown to Implicated and concerned, are the family of Phillip Chmelik, a fanner 55 years of age, who has resided on section 5 in London township for about 25 years, his wife Mary, their children, Mary, a neat and comely girl aged is, Rosa, aged 11, Reuben Id.I gnus, a married son living a mile to the southwest of his father's, Joe Chmelik. the murderer, 19 years old, of slight build. 5 feet, 5 inches high, dark blue rather small eyes, thick sensual lips, but not really a bad looking fellow. He lived with his father, the father also of Phillip, and mother about a half mile northeast of Phillip s! fhe three families are saving, thrifty farm people, and have humble although comfortable homes. Another young rnan, Frank Lunachek, was at Phillip’s it the time of the murders, and is •losely involved in the incidents of •rime and death.
