The preliminary trial in connection with one of the most daring robberies ever committedin this part of the province cameto a close on Tuesday when Police Magistrate Callin committedHarry, George and VVasil Cobliuk VVasil Featberczulc and Peter Siminuke to stand tjieir trial at the spring assizes, for breaking into and carrying away the safe and other goods from T McLen-nan’s store. The robbery was committed earJy Monday morning, Feb. 10, and it was only by persistent work on the part of W W Wilson, representing Thos McLennan, R. H. Keav and others that the real facts of the robbery came to light. The above five together with five or six others were arrested on suspicion and have been in charge of provincial constables for ten days, but they all denied having anything to do with the robbery. The first cine to the guilty parties came through Alex Flundra when he stated that George Cobliuk came to his place late Suuday night and wanted Flundra to go with him “for a time,” bnt he refused to go, working fiom this they gradually picked up evidence against the gang, the stamps were found in a letter pad belonging to Peter .Siminuke, the bprned papers were found in Geo. Cobliuk’s house and when Siminuke saw that they were up against it made a full confession implicating the other four, none of the others arrested were a party to the robbery. He told how they drove to Asessippi and he was left in charge of the horses down ontheriver while the other four went tothe store. It took them about an hour to get the safe and other goods lout, and when they were loaded on the sleigh they drove toSiminuke’s where the safe was broken open, the books, papers and money taken out, and it was then hidden in a bluff. The money was hidden in the snowr and has not yet been found, but the tobacco was fouud in a bag also hidden in the snow. The breaking up of this gang will be a great relief to the settlers around Asessippi as the loss of grain and cattle was becoming a serious matter, and it is believed they are the guilty parties, but it is the first time they have been (caught with the goods, and they should be given a long sentence, or if possible, deported from the country as a lesson to others who may be inclined to try to pick up an easy living in the same way. The prisoners were taken to Minnedosa on Wednesday morning by Constable McCalder and it is to be hoped that this district has seen the last of them for many moons.I George Zittric, another Galician i from the same colony, will appear before Police Magistrate Callin on a charge of grain stealing.
