MAY FIRE MAYUNDERSTOOD PETITION HAS BEEN ADDRESSED TO GOVERNOR,Lansing, Feb. 19. (United Press) —Gov. Alex J. Groesbeck today issued an order summoning Peter O. Jezewski, mayor of Hamtramck to appear before him February 29 al; 10 a. m. to show cause why he should not be removed from office.The order was issued by Governor Groesbeck after a petition hud been brought him from Detroit by Harry IT. Groes- j beck today, '•Hamtramck became' in 1923 a rendezvous of criminals, crooks and confidence men,“There was a complete breakdown in all law enforcement,” the petition continued, “the city became a center of white slave and narcotic traffic. There flourished more than 380 places where liquor was openly and defiantly sold to the public, with the full knowledge of the mayor.“Many municipal officials of Hamtramck, under the Jezewski administration, have been directly and financially interested in the liquor traffic.Since the entry of the state troopers in December, Jackson and Voorhies added, conditions have improved.The mayors removal is urged so that these improved conditions; may continue to exist.”Pausing.
