ANACONDA NEWSROBBERY FOILED AND»SrRA daring nt to nipt to rot the jewelry store of M Hammerslough, at 120 Main st root, was made this morning by ayoung man apparently working alone.The attempt was spoiled and thewould-be robber placed in the city jail ^through the prompt action of persons working near and Patrolman ErnestGillespie.Daniel O'Brien, bartender in the Turf saloon, was Just starting tor home wheti he heard a crash of breaking | glass. Knowing that Officer Gillespie was eating at the time in the Turf ! cafe, he rushed to the rate door and called hint. O’Brien, Gillespie and Nellie Finnegan, waitress in the Turft , cafe, rushed up the street, and the girl.. ! in passing the Hninmerslough placo, saw some one inside evidently trying tlt; get into the cash register. She f pointed Id in out to tile others, and as she did so the man saw them and made a rush for the rear of the place.The whole glass pane of the front «loor had been broken by the intruder in getting into the place and Patrolman Gillespie followed him through i tiiis place, telling the others to watch ; the door. The officer found his way with a flashlight and captured the i burglar in tie* back room He dragged Him out and placed him in the custody | of George W. Ortne of r.18 Pine street, who was passing, with orders to holdldm.
