F. Jones yesterday. Also, after he had refused to pay a fine as equivalent, declaring he would “lay-it out. the court refrained from granting him permission to do so. He was committed to the county jail to serve thesentence of ninety days.Marcus was charged with peace disturbance. it being alleged that he, in company with Peter Simmons, followed Mrs. Martha Kennedy, her daughter, Miss Viola Kennedy, and the latter'? escort, Earl Clark, from church to their home, and in many ways made themselves objectionable.Actions IHsrefipectful.While his case was being heard before Justice Jones yesterday he is asserted to have acted in a disrespectful manner toward the officials. He was declared guilty of the charge of disturbance, for which he received a Jail sentence of sixty days. When asked by Justice Jones if he desired to pay the fine and costs or go to jail, he expressed himself as pre-fering the commitment. Later he offered certain remarks that resulted in the sentence being increased.After being placed in the city Jail to be held until taken to Carthage, Marcus changed his decision and wanted to pay the court assessment. Three friends were sent to confer with the court in the matter, but his appeals were unsuccessful.Simmons' case was heard by Justice Jones Tuesday. His father and slater entered a plea of guilty for him after he had denied the charge.
