I am employed as an engineer in a flour mill at Coal City, where I have been for years and am well known. I feared the worst, but made my way there determined to learn the truth.After I was admitted to the house about the first person I met was my recreant wife. I had not seen her for thirteen years, but I at once recognized her and then I knew all. My wife led me to another room where I saw my long lost daughter cold and still in death. My heart sank within me. She was my youngest child, and only 16 years of age when she died. It was almost more than I could bear. And oh, such a hideous death! She is better dead than alive, though under the circumstances and the curse of her wastedlife falls upon her mother.This afternoon we buried her. She has a grave in Highland lawn cemetery. May God have mercy on her soul. I have three eons living here and one, I believe lives at Clinton. I am a heartbroken old man now and my life is drawing to a close.
