Miss Bartholomew was one of last year’s graduates from Mount Dora High* and her friends here hope her injuries are not serious:Miss Maurita Bartholomew, 18, freshman co-ed at the University of Miami, was confined to a hospital today suffering from a wound in the head, received during a altercation between her escort, Ernest Duhaime, 20, also a university student, and Roscoe Wheeler, watchman at an estate here.Wheeler was taken to a hospital suffering with wounds about the head, inflicted, police said, when Duhaime took Wheeler’s gun away from him and beat him.Physicians said Miss Bartholo,-1 Ti mew, active in the young society i circles here, suffered only a slight scalp wound, caused either by a bullet or a piece of flying concrete I h from a wall struck by a bullet fired 11 during the argument.The altercation occurred when | ^ Duhaime, who was riding in an automobile with Miss Bartholomew, backed his car into a drive of the I ^ estate where Wheeler was employ-1J ed, in order to turn around.Police quoted Duhaime as saying Wheeler jumped onto the running board of the machine and told the student he was under arrest “for backing into a special officer”. Duhaime said that at the time, he believed the man to be a robber.; When an argument started, Du-| haime declared Miss Bartholomew ran toward a nearby house and that Wheeler fired twice. Grappling with Wheeler, Duhaime said he 11 wrested the weapon from him and struck him on the head with it. The student was not arrested.rt1
