Kilgore yesterday after asking for leniency.Before passing sentence, Judge Kilgore asked the young Lester miner if he had anything to say, | d and Clyburn stated:“I still say I’m as innocent ofthe crime as yon are. I hope you’ll be as lenient as you possibly can.”Evidence brought out in the trial was that he attacked a 12-year-old girl in the vicinity of Lester last August 17. He never denied the charge during the trial, but said he’d been told a negro attacked the youngster.The child claimed Clyburn and his mother offered her clothing and other things if she wouldn't tell it was Earl. For four days she told a story that implicated an unidentified negro.Riley McKinney w’as given atwo-year term in the penitentiary for forging his uncle’s name to a note for $75. He made arangements to pay off the note, said Prosecutor W. A. Thornhill, jr, who asked for “consideration” from the court.
