Greer, known aa tke “dnck man,** at tlm'a home on Pic lake.Special Dispatch to the Standard.Great Falls, Feb. 11.—James Malcolm, who is held in the Glasgow county jail on the charge of horse stealing, is said to have confessed to the murder of W. W. Greer at his former home on Pig lake, near the Canadian line, in Valley county. The confession is said to have been made to A. Waldron, County Attorney Kerr and Dr. Getty. It is said Malcolm claimed he had stopped at the house of Greer the evening of the killing, but had concluded to go away when Greer tried to kill him, and heshot him twice in self-defense.There was no quarrel, and Malcolmsays he does not know why Greer triedto kill him. Greer lived alone and wasknown as the duck man. He waa a lawyer by profession and had come to Montana from Utah and lived the life of a recluse. He was murdered at hla cabin Jan. 26 by being shot twice with rifle bullets.Malcolm, who is a young cowboy, waa arrested on a charge of horse stealing until further investigation could be mad*, and it is stated the confessionAnally resulted
