A Negress Talked, So Bout Followed in Little Africa. A knowledge of neighborhood gos sip and a wagging tongue may prove a lever with which to gain entrance to the most select set, but it also has its drawbacks. Witness the experience of Maud Hudson, ebony-hued belle of Little Africa's 400, who is sporting two handsomely colored and badly swol len eyes, a split lip and a goose egg on her forehead as a result of a clash with Frank Ewing and Viola Ewing, also members of Little Africa's most exclusive clique, Wednesday after noon at the Ewing home in Sunshine Hollow. Maud heard things, and she was generous with her information. Con sequently she was hailed by Viola as she passed the latter’s home Wednesday and was invited in. She accepted the invitation. Three min utes later neighbors heard a blood curdling yell and sounds of a fero cious combat. The thud of heavy blows on flesh and of the crash of overturned chairs and tables re sounded through the immediate neighborhood. A moment later Maud hurtled through the front door as if project ed from a catapult and fled through the front gate, emitting cries of pain and threats of dire venegeance. Yesterday morning she applied to Justice Frank Armstrong for a war rant for Frank and Viola, charging common assault. She exhibited her battered features as grounds for com plaint. But when Deputy Constable Nor man Bricker went to Ewing’s home at noon yesterday he found a huge padlock on the front door and the windows were shuttered. Neighbors told him that Frank and Viola had “done gone tith Carthage tith visit er few days.” They will be brought back to Jop lin to answer for their alleged as sault on Maud.
