observation of Labor Day at Lafayette was considered.WOMAN SCARES ROBBERS AWAY FROM A SALOONUNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT MADE*TO ROB SALOON OF DAVID HALLAM, 18TH STREET.According to Mrs. David Hailam anattempt was made to rob the Hailam♦saloon in Eighteenth street early Sunday morning. Mrs. Hailam alleges she4heard noises. She got up and found two men in the saloon: She tried to discharge a revolver she had in her hand but it failed to go off on account of being rusty. The would-be-robbers immediately disappeared and just as they got out of the building the gun did its work and the ball went whizzing through the screen.Another attempt is alleged to have♦been made to enter the Wabash depot, according to reports, although the officials do not think robbery was the motive. The door leading to the tick-et office has a spring lock and the night agent went out of the place and left the keys inside the dodr. As aresult he was locked out add had to*•go to the home of Agent Burke to get his keys. The Wabash people think that the signs of an attempt to force the door were iade by someone who was trying to assist the ticket agent in getting in the place.
