I have reconsidered and I will be a candidate.’’ he said Mitchell. 31. has served as Nsheriff in the county since ‘‘October, 1972, when Gov. George C Wallace appointed* him to fill a vacancy left whenm%former Sheriff I.uke Brewer was impeached bv the AlabamaSupreme Court.Mitchell, early last week, had announced that he was returning to his position as an investigator with the AlabamaDepartment of Public Safetywhere he had served since 1963 before W allace tapped himHe said he changed his mind after a flood of people called and came bv to ask me to run ’Mitchell and his wife, Patricia Bass, live in Talladega with their two children He is originally from Lawrence County where he graduatedfrom Mt Hope High SchoolMitchell attended Gadsden State Junior College and has graduated from a number ofpolice academies and lawenforcement schools.“We have made real progress in Talladega County, Mitchell said “We have solved a lot of cases and I think we've made law enforcement in the county something to be respected But there is still a lot of work to be done and 1 felt that I could better serve the people in this county by seeking election to the sheriff's position.
