RDER TRIALSAn unusually heavy criminaltrial schedule in District Court in Lovington has been substantially lightened by guilty pleas from both defendantswith murderchargedrtis Moore and Earl “Toro-my” Burton have both waivedtrials by Jury and entered guiltypleas before Judge Kerrolt Nash in Hobbs. Disposition of these eases clears two more of the Hobbs homicides which have been frequent in recent months.Moore, 39-year-old Hobbs resident, pled guilty to two counts of second degree murder in connection with the shootiiv death of William Tdt “Smoky*’ Brown and Leona “Polly** Brown, alsoof Hobbs, on November 18.Moore’s plea was entered In Judge Nash's chambers at Hobbs yesterday afternoon. His sentencing is set tor February 20.Moore's attorney was Theodore-Johnson, Hobbs lawyer.This morning Barton also pled guilty before Judge Nash in Hobbs. The 30-year-old resident of Cisco was charged with shooting and killing Floyd E. Smith in a Hobbs bar December 5.Barton, charged officially with manslaughter, received a set*tence of from two to 10 yearsin the state penitentiary. His trial was to have been Tuesday, February 27.
