Powellsaid today.caused by premature births andother causes over which the healthdepartment has no control.Mr. Powell said January was anabnormal month in this respect, andpredicted that succeeding monthswill see a lower infant death rate.There were 16 infant deaths inJanuary, 1932.Total deaths last month were 137,compared with 140 last year. Influenza, which caused 21, was themost frequent cause of death, displacing tuberculosis, which caused16 deaths. Fifteen persons died ofpneumonia.11fInfluenza caused eight of the 31 deaths.
