Innocent plea entered in fatal shooting caseA Greeley man pleaded in' ikkent in District Court Monday to a second degree murder charge filed against him in connection with the fata) shooting of a man at an Ault bar Dee. 10.The defendant, Paul Luna Vasquez, 21, 326 21sl Ave., also pleaded innocent to a charge of menacing with a deadly weapon and three violent crime sentence allegation charges.Judge Hugh !!. Arnold continued the case to Wednesday for a hearing on motions tbal have been filed.Vasquez originally was charged with first degree murder for the alleged slaying of Joe Martinez Alvarez, 50, of rural Ault. The charge was reduced to second degree murder cn motion of Michael Varallo. deputy district attorney, at the slart of apreliminary hearing last Thursday.Alvarez was shot in the chest in a shooting which occurred at the El Sombrero Par in Ault about 10;30 p. m. Dec. in and died at the scene.In the menacing charge, Vasquez is accused of menacing the bar’s bouncer, Martin Perez, with a deadly weapon, specifically a .32 caliber pistol.Police Chief Jerry Smith of Ault reported at the time that a fight broke out in Ihe bar and Perez tried to separate the two fightem, one of whom was Vnsquez. Pern was knocked to the floor and. according to Smith, Vasquez allegedly fired twice in the direction of the bouncer with a pistol.The police ehier reported Vasquez then turned around and fired one slial which struck Alvarez in the chest.
