PAUL, Feb. 8—CAP)—'The prisoner who escaped from Federal Agents at Yorkville, 111., prob-ably is Volney Davis, under indictment as one of the actual kidnapers of Edward G. Bremer, the Associated Press learned today. The report that the fugitive is Davis was strengthened by the fact that Mrs. Edna Murray, 34-year-old “kissing bandit” who was arrested in Pittsburg, Kas., is the Bremer suspect’s girl friend.Davis, 33 years old, escaped once before from the Oklahoma pris* on at McAlester, where he was serving a life term for murder. He was re-arrested in Kansas City tn 1925, 13 days after his escape, and returned to prison.According to records in the department of justice here, Davis was granted a “leave of absence” Nov. 3, 1932, until July 1, 1933, at which time it was extended to July 1, 1934. Since that time he has been listed as a “fugitive.” Davis “broke away” from the Arthur Barker-Alvin Karpis gang about six months ago, it was learned from a reliable source, but he has been known to have joined Mrs. Murray on several occasions since.Davis and Mi's. Murray wereE reported to have been in Kansas City recently. The fact that the escaped prisoner was being transferred from the Missouri city to Chicago added to the belief thatthe fusrifive was Davis.
