Red Wing Council Refuses to Renew Permit ofCafe Proprietor.* •Red Wing—The city council Friday night refused to grant Pan Francis, proprietor. of the Majestlo cafe on Plum street, a license to sell soft drinks after a communication had been read from County Attorney Theodore Ofstedahl, in which he declared that the spiking of beer with alcohol in direct violation of the statutes had been permitted.The county attorney's letter stated that Bussel Corey, 18 years of age* in a sworn statement made before him, declares that on Jan. 18 hef and Vemon Mumford had purchased a half pint of alcohol at a cafe on Main street from a young man, who* they believe, was -a resident of Lake* lt;City, for 60 cents.Later, according to their statement, they went to the Majestlo cafe where they spiked a bottle of near beer. They then went to a. masquerade at the armory and then returned to the cafe to spike another bottle. Ralph Flynn was with them, the statement declared, and he was provided with a spiked bottle of beer.Dan Francis, proprietor of the cafe, saw the spiking and made no objection whatsoever, Corey stated* Furthermore, according to his statement, on other occasions he had openly spiked beer at the cafe and had seen others do it without interference from1 the proprietor or employes.“I think it Is about time we shut down on these fellows who jseem to get\a kick out of violating the Jaw/* said Alderman C. AH members of the council favored the. motion and the city; clerk was instructed to refund Mr* Francis the money he had paid for his license. Only a few weeks ago . be was fined $100 and costs for failure to renew his soft, drinlg license when it expired.That's what is going to happen to all if they don't live up to thei law, said Dr. Bohmbach when thd vote had been taken.
