Police nab four in store theftFour Chicago Heights residents were charged with theft Monday after a Homewood tactical team spotted one of them stealing clothing from the Venture store, 17920 Halsted street, Homewood.The team of Homewood detectives were called to the scene after store security guards observed four suspicious persons enter the store at 2:30 p.m.Police said when they arrived at the store, they saw one suspect trying to return a man's shirt without a receipt, another keeping watch from a distance, and a third paying for a small item at the cash register.ACCORDING TO police, the fourth suspect, Peggy Hannah, 26, 446 Hickory street, Chicago Heights, waswatched while browsing in the ladies apparel department. Police said they then saw Mrs. Hannah conceal four pairs of women’s underwear and a blouse beneath her coat and leave the store.Police said Mrs. Hannah went to a car in the parking lot, a vehicle already occupied by Joseph Harper. 23, of 513 Concord drive, Chicago Heights, who police had earlier observed buying an item at the cash register.According to police, the other two suspects then left the store after the store refused to give them a refund on the shirt.The two were identified by police as Tyrone Landingham, 23. 1915 Ashland avenue, Chicago Heights, andCornelius Porter, 22, of 424 Concord drive, Chicago Heights.POLICE SAID Landingham later revealed that Mrs. Hannah had stolen the man’s shirt he had tried to return for a refund.Mrs. Hannah later returned to the police station with receipts she claimed were for the stolen items and demanded that police return her property.Police later found that the receipts did not match the prices of the stolen objects and refused Mrs. Hannah's request.All four of the suspects were charged with theft. Mrs Hannah was also charged with retail theft and with driving with a revoked driver's license
