Murder TrialMarch 2 ForC.O. PickettOpening arguments and presentation of evidence in the second degree murder trial of Clarence 0.Pickett, 42, Windfall will be heardin Tipton Circuit court on MondayMarch 2, it was revealed today byJudge Oliver WheatleyLocal attorney, Loren Joe Heaton, was appointed special prosecutor for the state after regular prosecutor, Stanley Herbert disqualified himself. Herbert explainedthat he had done some work on thecase before his election to the postof prosecuting attorney. Heaton i*a former city court judge. *1Pickett was indicted on a seconddegree murder charge by a Tip-SVJR26. The indictment followed the (niton grand jury which met last Mayshotgun slaying of Mrs. MargaretL. Smith in her home at 832 Northv\Independence on May 10.
