She had engaged in conversation rith her husband and the visitor for ome time.Men Had Been Quarreling.'Flie woman, according to her story, iad left the room and upon her return ound her husband and I’attillo engaged in a quarrel. The men had cross vords and then Pattillo pulled a knife iut of his pocket and started after it even son.Stevenson hurried into an adjoining oom, where he secured his razor and ’attillo followed him into the room. Stevenson moved on into a bedroom, vhere Smith, who is a brother of M~s. itevenson, and Moore, a boarder, were leeping. The commotion aroused lt;mith and Moore and both got out of ed.Stevenson blocked the door for a ime but lost his grip and Pattillo ntered the room. The men tussled or a time and then Stevenson struck ?att illo on the right side of the nock vith the razor, inflicting two,wounds, ne of one inch in length and the other wo and a half inches in length.The wounded man staggered from lie room and out of the Stevenson iome. Stevenson followed Pattillo out f the house and then returned and jot his revolver. He fired two shots ut of the gun, according to Mr. Ktev-;nson and Smith and Moore.Comes to Altoona.Stevenson spent Wednesday night at his home and reported for work at the usual hour on Thursday. However, he failed to go to work and returned to his home. Mrs. Stevenson states that her husband boarded the train, leaving Claysburg for Altoona, at 10 o'clock Thursday morning.The woman insists that her husband failed to mako known his plans in leaving. She stated that she did not know how much money he had in his possession. In answer to a question as to whether or not the men were drinking when the cutting took place, Mrs. Stevenson said Pattillo was but her husband was not. At least she didn’t see her husband drink anything.Smith and Moore, in their statements, corroborated the testimony of Mrs. Stevenson. Neither had seen the fight start and neither had seen either of the men drink anything. Moore said that he supposed that both of the men had been drinking.After reaching Claysburg yesterday afternoon, Sheriff Baird communicated with Constable W. W. Lingenfeltcr oi Greenfield township and the three witnesses, Mrs. Stevenson and Smith and Moore, were brought to Hollidaysburg in Constable Lingerifelter’s automobileCoroner Is Notified.The first word of the killing was given to Coroner Chester C. Rothrock m this city yesterday morning. He received a telephone call from the Nason hospital in-Roaring Spring, telling him of the death of Pattillo.The hospital authorities informed the coroner that Pattillo had died from cuf wounds of the neck. The hospital was unable to give any definite informa tion as to how the man was hurt.Queries among county official at Hollidaysburg early yesterday nfter-noon revealed that, no word of the murder had been received from Clays burg. This led Sheriff Bnird to in vestigate the matter and he left immediately for the scene of the crime.Coroner Rothrock, in company with an Altoona Mirror representative, went to Claysburg yesterday afternoon. ITf first viewed the laxly at the undertaking establishment of Jacob Cam and Son and then visited the Stevenson home. Sheriff Baird had in the meantime departed for Hollidaysburg with ; the prisoners.Call Sent for Nurse.The coroner, in his investigation Tester dav,. learned that Miss Margaret I tarn.* a nurse, employed by the General Refractories company, had received a .-all late on Wednesday night from the Pattillo home. Because of the pre vailing stormy weather. Miss Cam declined the call and recommended that a physician be called.A call was also received at the home of* Dr. Charles O. .Johnston, the well 1 known medical practitioner in Clays-i burg, but the doctor was not at home, being storm stayed in Bedford county and did not reach his home until Thursday morning.Dr. Johnstony visited the Pattillo home around 0 o'clock Thursday morn-' ing and found the wounded man in a very weak condition as the result oi loss of blood. The doctor adyised thal the man be removed to the Nason hospital at once.Pattillo was admitted to the hos-i pital in Roaring Spring at 11.40 o’clock Thursday morning. In a short time h# lapsed into unconsciousness and he failed to rally from the stupor. His death occurred at midnight Thursday Dr. Johnston, in a telephone conversation with the coroner last night, stated that he did not believe the man’sccondition to be serious when he ad ministered treatment on Thursday , s morning. The doctor said that he found ;t two cuts on the man’s Jieck and n-' slight cuts on both hands. None ot the wounds seemed to be a si-rioui 1 nature.Autopsy Is Ordered.The coroner has instructed Dr. Johnston to make an autopsy of Pat-tillo’s body and this is being done today at the Carn undertaking establishment in Claysburg.The coroner will hold an inquest late this afternoon at the lt;arn establishment in Claysburg. Statements will be secured from the three prisoners in * the county jail and will be read at the inquest.Inquiry at the Claysburg plant of ’ the General Refractories company, where Pattillo had worked for the past, tiix years as a brick moulder, revealed * that the man had been given a short, • suspension this week for poor workmanship. He had not worked for several days prior to the cutting affrayDistrict Attorney Patterson has notified the state police of the murder and 1 a state-wide search for Stevenson wdll be carried on. The local authorities 1 have nothing definite to work on, regarding Stevenson’s whereabouts, but hope to secure some information from tho three prisoners today.Has Brother In Altoona.The murdered man has a brother. Robert Pattillo, living in Altoona. ■ ho is employed at tho Logan House. Another brother, Ben, resides in lt;lay--burg. Two sister*, one of whom is Miss Maggie Pattillo of Carthage, 111., j are also Jiving. In addition to the two brothers and two sisters, the widw, Mrs. Mattie Pattillo. and five .-hildren survive.Deceased was a native of Carthage. 111., and was M years, 11 months and 8 days old ut the time of his death. He had worked for the past three y- rs as a moulder in the Claysburg bri-k plant. lie came to Claysburg from Carthage.The surviving children follow : Odell, aged 11 years; Cremonia, aged 0 years; Grace, aged years; Delia, aged \ years, and Iona, aged 6 months. The | body will be taken to Carthage for burial, leaving Claysburg by train at 4.4.1 o’clock this evening. The widow, i children and two brothers will accom- ‘ oany the body to the west.
