McKown of the La Crosse countyinsane asylum, now being investigated,was put on the stand this morning. Hedenied pocketing any funds belonging tothe county or giving away any countyproperty. lie said everything he gave away was liis personal property. 11 istestimony regarding alleged cruelty to patients will not be reached until later. Relative to the charge that a patientnamed Briley, who died, was dumped into a rough box and buried in only his underclothing, Undertaker Morcereau, who does the asylum work, testified thatMcKown never asked him for a large coffin, but could have gotten one. Briley was a large man and McKown claims no coffin could be found to tit him. The evidence will not all be in until some time tomorrow.
