About a year after the Great Northern train robbery near Wagner, a man giving the name of Harvey Logan, was arrested at Knoxville, Tenn., for shooting two policemen. This was Kid Curry, for both Tom Jones and Mike O’Neil, engineer and fireman on the dynamited Mon-1 tana train, went to Knoxville and Identified him. He was convicted on a number of counts but before being taken to the penitentlaiw, made his escape. He had been visited a few days prior by people from Montana.One day he was allowed to use the big Jail broom to sweep his own cell, saying he was expecting more company. Before returning the broom to the guard, he removed the strong copper wire on it and made a slip noose with It. Later, he engaged theJailer in so confidential a conversation that the Jailer came and leaned against the bars with his head very close. The proximity of the Jailer gave Curry a chance to slip the nooee over his head, to draw it close around his neck and attach it to one of the bars In his cell. He took the Jailer’s keys,Hand coat and walked out of the and rode away on the sheriff’s se which was saddled and tied riearby.Years thereafter, a New York newa-paper printed a report that Kid Curry and his gang had held up a bank in 8outh America, secured $20,000 and escaped.
