_Wm. Jones, better known as “Penitentiary Bill Jones,” long known in this community, died in Basic City several weeks since. It was said be was a prominent member of tbe “Jeff Randall gang,” the principal of which was hung by the citizens of this place before the war, and Jones was sent to the “Pen” for helping to rob a mill a conple of miles above here. Injustice to Mr. Jones we must state, he always claimed he was “more sinned against than sinning.”— Last summer your correspondent had a' long talk with him, in which he gave the inside history of the workings of thiB gang, and implicated some parties now living near here, but as they sr quiet, well-behaved citizens now, we will not “rake up old ashes1! by telling their names.
