Woman [gets life for poisoninghusbandOTTAWA — A housewife and onetime stripper who poisoned her estranged husband with a lethal wine-and-antifreeze cocktail has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.Cherrylle Dell, of Killaloe, Ont., was convicted yesterday of first-degree murder for duping Scott Dell into drinking more than half a litre of wine mixed with antifreeze in December 1995.Five years after police ruled Scott Dell’s death a suicide, the man’s family embraced and cried as an Ontario Superior Court judge concluded he was actually murdered by his estranged wife.“I’m satisfied Cherrylle Dell had sufficient motive to kill Scott Dell,” Ontario Supenor Court Justice James Chadwick said to a packed courtroom, which included the man’s two sisters and mother.Reading excerpts from his 86-page written decision, Chadwick described a woman desperate to regam custody of her three children after a bitter split in which she left her husband for a lesbian lover.“Cherrylle Dell had virtually lost custody of her children, although a few options were open to her,” wroteChadwick.“After that she had to co-operate with Scott Dell in order to improve the access. The only way Cherrylle could regain sole custody of her children was to get rid of Scott.”Clad in a black suit, her cuffed hands clasped in front of her, Dell stared straight ahead from the glass-enclosed pnsoner’s box as Chadwick delivered judgment.Dell hesitated when asked if she had any words for the court, turned to briefly consult with her lawyer and finally shook her head.— Canadian Press
