In an encounter with moonshiners on Elkhon creek, on the line between Pike and Letcher counties, Kentucky, Deputy United States Marshal Thomas Hollifield and Simon Combs were killed; Blaine Clt; mbs was captured and probably killed and Ambrose Amburgy wounded. This is said to be the full number of posse, though another report gives the name of Rufus Amburgy as wounded. The details have not been received, but it is said none of the moonshiners were wounded.
