Remanded.Charge of Manslaughter.—An investigation has been going on for the last few days at the Thames Police-office, before Mr. Combe, the Magistrate, relating to the death of James Slee, a man well known on the River as a vender of purl and beer, who was drowned on Saturday afternoon nearly off the St. Katharine Dock entrance, through the alleged violence of one lt;fr two seamen belonging to the Louisa, a schooner from Leith. T wo seamen, named John Waters and John Ridley, belonging to the vessel, were, immediately after thedeath of the purl-man, apprehended and charged^ with wilful murder, but, after a short investigation on Saturday night, Ridley was discharged, and Waters has since been arraigned on a charge of manslaughter. There was much discrepancy in tne evidence, and the prisoner was remanded for a week, in order to give time for further inquiry.On Friday, two women, named Trigg and Oakley, were brought to Hatton Garden Office, charged with having detrauded the daughters of Sir Edward Sugden, and several other ladies, by obtaining money, c. from them, under pretence of pregnancy and destitution. The prisoners were remanded for a week, to give time for further inquiry.
