GoMeeDuring the time the fire occurred, according to Chief Bloodsworth, Calvin was at his parents’ home. Atapproximae-ly 7:35 P.M. Calvin hadstopped by his home to pick up some -thing. Everything was okay then. He then went to his mother’s home. Shortly thereafter someone thought they heard a knock at the door, Calvin went to the door and saw hishome on fire.Asked why, within a couple of hours, suspects had been arrested on charges of allegedmission to have a rally inOchlocknee on Doc. 20, 1969.Neither Mayor Dekle nor Sheriff Rehberg granted the Klansmen permission to have a public rally. After the incidents, Sheriff Rehberg and Mayor Dekle tried to get the Klan to postpone its rally. Klan spokesmen stated tliat it wastoo late because Klansmen fromAtlanta and Florida had been contacted and were to be present. The rally was held and the sheriff sent Deputies to keep order.It was reported that the rally took place on the property of Randall Smith. Smith was described as a “good fellow” a volunteer fireman and one who was once active in the Klan. Whether or not he is activenow is not known.Chief BloodworthChief Bloodsworth emphatically stated that “theKlan had notliing to do with it”, referring to the arson incident. He said that the Klan is made up of Preachers, Sunday School Teachers, and Church Workers.Ther seems to be a lot of uncertainty concerning both incidents.
