(UPI)—A newspaper investigationinto the series of clashesbetween Black Panthers and police produced indisputable evidence that 10 Panthers were killed by police, it was reported Saturday.Newsday, a Long Island newspaper, said it also haddetermined that five policemen were killed by Panthers, although one of the deaths was described as “disputed and even mvsterious.”The newspaper said it had been investigating the Panthers in a number of cities throughout the country for the past three weeks in conjunction with a charge by Panther attorney Charles Garry that police have killed 28 members of the revolutionaryinorganization the past two years.Newsday listed the 10 Pan-One Arraigned,Four Sought InAlmonte BurglaryRobert Ward of Marin City was arraigned yesterday in Marin Municipal Court on a charge of burglarizing an Almonte house Dec. 1, and warrants of arrest were issued for four other Mann City youths charged with the same burglary when they failed to appear in court.Being sought are Bernard David Thompson, Terry Lee Grinner, Harold Cook and Ralph Wayne Howard.Ward’s case was continued until Jan. 2 for entry of plea.In addition to the burglary charge, all five are accused ofthers “indisputably were killed by the police” as:Bobby Hutton, 17, killed April 6, 1968 in a shootout at Oakland.Steven Bartholomew. Thomas Lewis and Robert LawTcnce, killed Aug. 5. 1968 in a shootout in Los Angeles.Welston Armstead. 17, killed Oct. 15, 1968, in Seattle, W'ash., when carrying a rifle, he allegedly resisted police efforts to question him about a robbery.Larry Robertson, killed Sept. 4 in a shootout in Chicago.Walter “Toure” Pope, 20, kUled Oct. 18 in a shootout in Los Angeles.Spurgeon Jake Winters, killed Nov. 13, in a gunbattle in Chicago.Fred A. Hampton. 21. leader of the Black Panther.s in Illinois, and Mark Qark, 23. leader in downstate Peoria, killed earlier this mwith when Chicago police looking for an alleged arms cache raided a Panther apartment.Newsday said the “disputed and mysterious” police death was that of Oakland Policeman John Frey on Oct. 28, 1967. Huey Newton, cofounder of the Panthers, is serving a two to 15-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter in the death.Other police deaths, New'sday said, were:Nelson A. Sasscer, shot June 4, 1969 in Santa Barbara. A Panther has been accused of the killing but not yet tried.Rudy Limas, killed in the Los Angeles shootout in which Bartholomew, Lewis and Lawrence also died.Francis Rapaport and JohnJ. Gilhooley Jr., killed in the Chicago gunbattle in which Winters also died.
