H., Dec. 26.—A sensational case reached its climax, today, when Mrs. Carae St. Clair Hun toon, twenty-six years old, and once a leading bella of this city, was placed under arrest on the charge of conspiracy to kill her divorced husband, Walter 0. Hantoon. It is said that she has been extremely jealous of him, and it is possible that her hatred may have become so intense as to effect her mental derangement. The story given out by the police tonight ie almost dramatic. It appears that Mrs. Huntoon went to Boaton last Monday and in the TJaion station there accosted a youn man, (who was an onfcire stranger to her,) asking him if lie wanted a job. When he asked about ita nature. Mrs. Huntoon said, “To put a m:n oat of the way.” She added that it was the only way she could get rid ot him. The young man was William Henry Dutton of Dorchester, Mas?. He wtnt home and told Lis father about the occurrence. Then the Boatou authorities were informed and they in turn notified Jity Marshal Locke of this city, furnishing him with the woman’s description. This led to the arrest of Mrs. Hunfcoon before she could accomplishher tmrnose.A Hew AnxietyLondon, Deo. 27, 2:00 a. m.—The obscurity of tne despatches from South Africa gives rise to a new anxiety. The disturbances in Oape Colony apparent ly extend further south than last December, and General Kitchener evident ly has not had inuoh suooess yet in driving back the invaders. The war office said last evening that it bad no news regarding the reported oapture of yeomanry by the Boers near Briutown. A despatch from Bu^ghersdorp has a mysterious reference to the Boers being mistaken for a part of Brabant’s horse which, led the command to *‘cease fire,” and allowed the Boers to oocuxy the commanding positions. The British Press in general ie optimistic this morning, but the situation briogs home the enormous difficulties confronting Kitchener when he tries to patrol and police such an imoieose territory, even after the Boers hava been finally subdued. _To Use MaorisLondon, Dec. 2(5.—The decision of the war office to include Maoris in the New Zealand can* in gent going to South Africa is extremely interesting, inas tnuch as the government promised at th«ommencenient of the war nos to er.ploy any black troops.--*--Kitchener's Proclamation.London.
