BURLlNGiON, lOtfA.CAUGHT BETWEEN CARS.Two Fatal Accidents From Moving Trains on the “Q.”*One of the Barllngton’s Most Trusty Blacksmiths Killed at the BoundaryStreet Crossing—A Weil Known StockMan Caught and Crashed Between the Moving Cars.This morning about half past six o’clock, when the shop train which usually carries the employes from the city to their work at the C., B. Q shops in West Burlington pulled up at the Boundary street crossing, John H. Montgomery was standing between the two tracks at that point, in readiness toboard the train for the scene of his day’s labor. But as the shop train pulled in on one track, freight No. 6 from the west came in on the adjacent track, and when Mr. Montgomery attempted to board the shop train, whichwas not yet moving sufficiently slow for entire safety, he missed his hold. He was thrown backward, and in some nan ner his head struck the passing freight train, while his feet fell under the wheels of the shop train. The back of the unfortunate man's skull was cushed and three of his toes cut off.Dr. Holliday, the company’s surgeon, was called to the scene, and the unconscious man was taken to St. Francis hospital, where he died two Hours later, not having spoken or recovered for a moment from the shock to his brain.John H. Montgomery was a blacksmith and one of the mcst thoroughly reliable and highly esteemed men in the shops of the railroad company at West Burlington. He was not only respected for his ability and mechanical skill, but for his qualities of true manhood and his generous heart. He leaves a stricken family at his late home on Agency avenue, and his hosts of friends and fellow workmen are shocked and pained at the untimely fate of a man whom they held in high regard.The deceased gentleman was a memn ber of the Ancient Order of UnitedWorkmen, and had been in the employ of the Burlington road for twenty-sevenyears.
