Brutal Murder iu Tipton County*Tht? little tovrti ot W:nitaii, in *p-ton coUaij,~ou tSe Cinciuuaii R. R . on ru^ i :iy Inst, wa* the seen* of one of the most fiendish murders ever committed inIndiana. jNob. Goff wag well known to most ot ;tlii* citizens of tltb place and the eastern part ol this «ounty. He wa-* formerly ot the firm ot Glt;»ff lt;k Alien, at Jerome, lie married, near Newcastle, we believe. ■ a daughter of a Mr. Harvey, once a thrifty farmer of that county. Hasvev ’ an*l Golf both got into the whiskey business—distilling, as we are informed— and, as a philoophecal con sequence, de* r moralissed. During the past few years Goff was frequently seen on our streets ; drunk and engaged in fights. Recently, both the Goff and the Harvey families ; have lived at Windfall. Goff and his wife quarreled not unfraquently and the ; Harvey family participated. On Wednesday night, they had a regular row and : come to blows. On] Thursday morning the disturbance was renewed. Quiet; seemed to be restored—iudaed things be- j came entirely too quiet. About the mid-die of the forenoon, neighbors went into * Goff's house and found him upon a lounge ! in front of the fire, nicely covered, two ; hatchets and a hammer beside him, his 1 head literally cut to pieces. Evidently ; the murderer or murderers foolishly in- !tended to give out the impression that j Goff had killed himself. Indeed that jstory was put in circulation. But the ! evideuees were plenty that there had been j a desperate struggle. On the walls, all | around the room, on the mantle, and j even on the ceiling, was blood, and, we ! are told by a physician, brains. This seems strange, for there were eight gash- i es cut through his skull, and yet he lived j twenty-four hours. Those who know j Goff best, know with what tenacity he would hold on to life, and that he could bear more than any other man. Beyond j any doubt, he had been murdered by one ’ or more persons, who had a desperate figlit with him, and when they supposed he was dead had tried to fix him so the public would think he had committedsuicide.Persons were seen going away from the house about the time the murder was committed. Goff did not die until Friday, though he never spoke nor was he conscious. His wife says she knows nothing of it. She reports that early in the morning Goff had burned her silk and calico dresses, and that she had to go hall naked to her father's,'and borrow a dress from her mother—that she had returned, milked their cow, went into the house with the pail when her husband threatened to kill her and drove lies off. Nobody couldfind any sign of the pail of milk. There are many curious circumstances that might be mentioned but as most of them are rumors we forbear. It is most remarkable that, up to this writing, Tuesday, uo arrests have been made.It is possible that *ven the authoritiesof Tipton county, may conclude the case'needs investigation. If so, it is probable the murderers may be named then with more certainty than now.—Kokomo Tribune.
