Drummond pals take the 5thBy BILL ALNORDaily Times Staff WriterMBDLA — Two high-ranking members of tlunChurch of Our Saviour in Con-cordviUe repeatedly took the Fifth Amendment at a deposition hearing Wednesday.David J. Durham and Richard Price exercised their constitutional right against self-incrimination due to the ongoing federal grand jury in Philadelphia probing the Rev. Frederick Drummond and the Church of Our Saviour, according to a witness at the hearing.The deposition hearing took place at the Delaware County Bar Association officesin Media, the witness said.Durham and Price are defendants along with Drummond and the church in a suit filed by an Upper Providence man who alleged that while he was in the congregation he loaned $27,000 to the church under duress and in the false belief the money would be used to send missionaries around the world.Instead, the money was used to enrich Drummond, according to the suit filed by Charles P. Fawthorp of Fox Lair Village.According to the witness, attorneys for the two men advised their clients to take the Fifth Amendment to each and every question due to the ongoing grand juryprobe. Finally, Fawthorp’s attorney, Eugene Bonner of Media, asked both men if they intended to refuse to answer every question and they said yes.The suit also alleged that Drummond used public humiliation, insults and beatings of Bible school students to gain cultlike control over the congregation. Drummond and the two defendants also induced him to secure a second mortgage an his house and loan the money to the Durawood kitchen remodeling company in which the three men were principals, according to the suit.Drummond is scheduled to appear for a deposition in January, Bonner said.
