Sheriff probes Putnam shootingPutnam County Sheriff's 1 Department is continuing e investigation of a shooting which took place this week. The Sheriffs department was ? called to the home of Allen Lambert, Rt. 2, Fort Jennings, j The Sheriff said he had received a call from Roger Ruen saying that Richard Stokes of Rt. 2, Fort Jennings had been accidentally shot.Ruen said the two men, accompanied by Tom Trenkamp had gone coon I hunting. They said Trenkamp left them to go bowling while they continued to hunt.( Ruen said he went to sleep s in the car. When he awoke, he told Sheriffs department, the car was parked at the Allen Lambert farm on Road 23M,. near Fort Jennings.1 He said he found Stokes 1 lying on the lawn. Stokes had• been shot through the chest* with a 22 caliber rifle.Ruen then broke into the house to get to a telephone, the sheriffs department said and called them.Stokes was admitted to St.‘ Rita’s Hospital where he was in intensive care for several days. Officers investigating the mishap were unable to question Stokes as to what had taken place.
