inixOfficers Seize660 PoundsOf Marijuanamem*Two men arrested on Interstate 25 north of the city early Tuesday morning had in their possession 660 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $330,000.Arrested by Deputy Sheriff Bobby Parkes and City Police Sgt. John Vernon were Albert Hernandez, 25, of San Pedro, Calif., and Alberto Vasquez, 25 of El Paso. They were placed in Sierra County jail awaiting arraignment before Magistrate George Schaaf.Deputy Parkes saw a late-model four-wheel drive vehicle parked on North Date near the courthouse when he started out on patrol just past midnight Monday. As he passed the vehicle the driver turned out his lights After Parkes passed the driver turned his lights on again and another vehicle parked just up the street, tui ned on its lights and took off at high speed The four-wheel drive vehicle followed.Parkes radiod City Police Sgt. John Vernon, also on patrol, with a description of the vehicles. The four-wheel drive went north on Date and turned south again on 1-25 when the police officers overtook it. When they stopped the car the officers smelled marijuana and noticed packages stacked in the back under a blanket. Wrhen they lifted the blanket more than 300 packages of the weed, all apparently machine wrapped, were found The vehicle and marijuana were impounded and the two men placed in jail, charged with possession of more than eight ounces of a controlled substance, marijuana.
