An opinion rendered by Attorney General Oscar E. Carlstrom* that .Tames (Far) Sammons, Chicago gangster, was at large through^ legal error of former pardon boards, made It ios-vsible for W. C. Tones, chairman of the^present board, to have him returned to .Toilet prison. Originally, Sammons was sentenced to hang but in 1004 this sentence was commuted to life imprisonment* and in 1023 life sentence was commuted to fifty years, this action being followed a mouth Jater by parole and in 1020 he was given a final discharge.
