He stated he had been awakened by a cry from Mrs. Faust; that he saw a man strike his sister; that he called to the man to leave the room; that he did not recognize the man; that he could not give a good description of him. Even though there was a dim light in the room, this man had his back toward him; so he could not see his face; that the man may not have worn shoes nor wore a hat; that he had dark hair and wore dark clothing ....” Emil Voelcker states, “1 was very excited and a bit confused when 1 noticed this man in the room. I saw him strike my sister but I do not remember whether she was sitting up or laying down. This man was across the room from me when he hastened out. The doors between my room and the room in which my sister and Mrs. Faust slept had been left open at Mrs. Faust’s request.”Testimony of Robert Hellmann from Cibolo: “1 was present in my home when Faust was arrested there but not when he first came. Faust stated to me that he expected no just treatment in New Braunfels and had left to go to Seguin where he had friends. Homann and 1 found his trail about 10 miles from Hellmann. As we approached the store we asked two girls if they had seen Faust. They said their father had gone to a ravine at the creek. When 1 came close to this place I found Hellmann and told him that I was deputy sheriff'of Comal County looking for Faust. Further I requested his assistance as the girls had told me Faust was close by. Hellmann questioned my right to apprehend Faust.RosemarieLeissnerGregoryAfter I had shown him my official papers Hellmann led me to where Faust should be, but he was not there. Hellmann went back to his store, and I searched along the ravine but found no trace of Faust. When I returned to the store 1 told Homann to ride to my brother-in-law’s for more men as I was determined to find Faust. Also, I asked Hellmann’s brother and two boys to watch for Faust. A short time later while Hellmann and 1 were back at the ravine on the Cibolo, one of the boys informed me that Faust had run into Hellmann’s store. We hurried back and I arrested Faust. That night 1 guarded Faust in a schoolhouse and brought him by wagon to New Braunfels the next morning.”...
